Boutet de Monvel: Painter, Aquqfortist, Designer and illustrator. Born in Paris, student of Luc Olivier Merson, he began his career early with the coutryside of Nemours and a few portraits. His sucess was immediate and he worked for fashion magazines Vogue and Harper¹s Bazaar as well as becoming one of the most influential French illustrators of children's books. Around 1909 using his trademark of clean lines and pale colours he became who one of the most celebrated portraitists of his time.
